Time Machine kernel panics?

A report on MacFixit regarding Time Machine backups to Time Capsules or wire-connected drives causing kernel panics is disturbing, to say the least.

Apparently, for at least a few users, the sparse-bundle (used to store backed up data) is becoming corrupted somehow.

A temporary fix is to delete the sparse-bundle, but the corruption can continue. Apple needs to step up with a fix, if this is a widespread problem.

Caution: Reports of this kind can be from only a few users, and can be quite rare. Still, if Time Machine is you’re only backup, this can be disastrous.
