Broken iPhone screens now fixed in Apple Stores

It’s too bad if you have to get your new iPhone 3GS fixed… especially if it is not a warranty fix, as many broken screens are not. The time wasted by shipping the phone to the repair center just adds insult to the injury.

Now, Apple Stores are able to repair screens in-house. All three versions of the iPhone can be repaired, but the iPod Touch cannot, due todifferent manufacturing processes.

The Loop blogger Jim Dalrymple wrote the following:

If your phone is under warranty and the screen needs to be replaced due a defect with the device, there is no cost to have the screen replaced at a retail store. “However, if it’s not a warranty issue, the cost of having the screen replaced is $199.

For the skilled and the brave, and those who aren’t afraid to void the warranty, it’s possible to do the repair yourself using kits from various sources, including Mission Repair who offers both parts and a repair service ($119) and promises a 24 hour turn-around.

Sure hope I don’t ever have to try any of these options out!
