My pal David Trevelyan, a gifted artist and sculptor living in Bali for the last 20 years is a Photoshop and Illustrator genius. He taught me the basics for everything I know about both, about a year after I taught him how to start his new PowerBook 100 up.
He and I email info, drawings and more back and forth. Info mostly goes his way, drawings mostly back to me. He’s been using CS5 for the last week or so, and sent some brief comments:
FUN….. yes sir…….. I freakin’ love it. Its like the old Beatles Song – “It’s getting better all the time”. And it even makes me money.
Illustrator – its a ZEN thing to me and it’s my therapy for dealing with my Chronic Avoidance Syndrome; instead of being addicted to the internet, I draw in Illustrator instead. It has done wonders for me, and I have way kewl drawings show for the otherwise TIME SUCK.

This is one of the “simple” drawings David bats out instead of browsing the Internet or watching TV. He takes images from Bali, like the beetle shape, and uses influences from tribal art from Africa, Asia and Indonesia, creating unique and amazing forms. This is how he doodles. You should see his work when he’s serious.
Oh, and David is one of the finest graphic designers around, and works for international clients such as jewelry designer John Hardy. Contact me if you are curious about David and his work.
